How to Swap XRP for Bitcoin (and Other Crypto): A Practical Guide
Swapping one cryptocurrency for another is conceptually simple — you're trading XRP for a different asset at whatever the current market rate is — but a few details are worth getting right before you confirm a trade.
1. Check the live rate first
Before swapping, look up the current XRP-to-target-asset rate. Rates move continuously, so the number you saw an hour ago (or even a few minutes ago, during a volatile stretch) isn't necessarily the number you'll get now. Our XRP to Bitcoin bridge page — and the equivalent page for any of our other 98 supported coins — shows a live, continuously refreshing rate for exactly this reason.
2. Decide how much you're actually swapping
Enter the amount in whichever field is easier to reason about — XRP you're spending, or the target asset you want to receive — the calculator works in both directions from the same live rate. For larger amounts, be aware that the displayed rate is a reference market rate, not a guaranteed execution price; very large orders can experience more price impact ("slippage") than the headline number suggests, especially on lower-liquidity pairs.
3. Understand what fee is actually being charged
The rate shown on a bridge/swap calculator is typically the raw market rate — it doesn't include whatever fee or spread the platform executing the trade adds on top. That's true here too: our displayed rate doesn't include our swap partner's own fee, which applies when you actually execute a trade, same as it would on any exchange.
4. Double-check the destination before confirming
This is the step people skip and regret. If a swap sends the target asset to a specific wallet address, confirm that address is correct and on the right network before you confirm — many assets exist on multiple blockchain networks (for example, wrapped or bridged versions of the same token), and sending to the wrong network's address format is one of the more common, and often unrecoverable, mistakes in crypto.
5. Confirm and track the transaction
Once you confirm, the swap executes through the connected partner. Keep the transaction reference until you've verified the target asset actually arrived — network confirmation times vary by asset, and it's normal for a transaction to take anywhere from seconds to several minutes depending on which chains are involved.
A note on choosing what to swap into
We don't recommend a specific coin to swap XRP for — that depends on what you're trying to do, your own research, and your risk tolerance. See our guide on stablecoins vs. volatile assets for a framework, not a pick.
